  • Practice Slip Due:

    Week of November 27th

    LMS Orchestras

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break. I’m looking forward to getting back to work with the students.

Practice slips are due Monday, 11/27 (100 minutes.) This is the practice slip from the week of 11/13; any practicing done the week of 11/20 is extra credit.

We have several performances coming up in the next few weeks. Below is a list, please note which performances apply to which grade levels and what time students should be at each event.

6th, 7th, & 8th grade: “Holiday for Strings” concert Thursday, 11/30 at 7:30 pm in the PHS Auditorium. Students should be at PHS no later than 7:00 pm and report to the music rooms for tuning and warm up. 6th graders will meet in the choir room and 7th and 8th graders will meet in the band/orchestra room. Students should wear their concert black and white clothing: white blouse or shirt with a collar (e.g. a white polo shirt or white dress shirt), black pants or skirt, black hosiery, and black shoes. All black dresses are also acceptable.

7th & 8th grade: Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast performance Saturday, 12/2 at 11:20 am in the LMS Commons. Students should be at LMS by 10:50 am and report to room 806 for tuning and warm up. Students should wear their concert black and white clothing (as described above) and they may wear festive holiday accessories if they wish. Students may eat a free breakfast if they wish, but should be at LMS early to do so, by 10:15 am at the latest. I understand that some students may not be able to attend this performance since it is on a Saturday…please just let me know asap if your child will not be at the performance.

8th grade: “Giving Bach” performance during the school day on Thursday, 12/7. We will be sharing our “mUSic” with the preschool students at Concordia Lutheran preschool for our first “Giving Bach” activity. I will send an itinerary and permission slip home with more details this week.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break. I’m looking forward to getting back to work with the students.

Great job to the Blue Orchestra at the WSU Orchestra Festival! The students played extremely well and received superior ratings. Many thanks to the parents (Mrs. Rector and Mrs. Kumar) who were able to help us transport the cellos and basses.

Practice slips are due Monday, 11/27 (150 minutes.) This is the practice slip from the week of 11/13; any practicing done the week of 11/20 is extra credit. The end of the second grading period is Friday, 12/8.

We have a great number of performances and other activities coming up in the next few weeks. Below is a list, please note the locations of the performances/activities and what time students should be at each event. Please be sure to wear concert black clothing for the performances: black blouse or dress shirt, black pants or skirt, (an all black dress), black hosiery, black shoes.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast Saturday, 12/2 at 11:20 am at LMS in the Commons. Students should be at LMS by 10:50 am and report to room 806 for tuning and warm up. Students should wear their concert black clothing and they may wear festive holiday accessories if they wish. Students may eat a free breakfast if they wish, but should be at LMS early to do so, by 10:15 am at the latest. I understand that some students may not be able to attend this performance since it is on a Saturday…please just let me know asap if your student will not be at the performance.

PHS Instrumental Holiday Concert Wednesday, 12/6 at 7:00 pm in the PHS Theatre. Students should be at PHS by 6:30 pm and wear their concert black clothing. This concert will feature the PHS Bands and Orchestras.

Elementary Orchestra “Holiday for Strings” concert Wednesday, 12/13 at 7:30 pm in the LMS Gym. Students should be at LMS by 7:00 pm and meet in room 806 for tuning and warm up. The High school Orchestra students will accompany the Beginning Elementary students and will also perform on their own. Students should wear their concert black clothing for this event.

Booster Christmas Tree Sale Thursday, 12/14 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the “O Christmas Tree” lot by the fire station. We will need 6-8 students for each hour and also 2 parents for each hour. I have a conflict and am not able to be at the sale. Parents, please let me know if you are able to help man the tree lot for an hour on the 14th. I will have a sign up for the students this week.

Butter Braid Fundraiser: students sold 219 Butter Braids for a profit of $1,095. Each student will have the amount of profit he or she earned credited toward their trip fee, as well as any donations that were brought in. Butter Braids will be delivered Monday, 12/4. I believe the delivery will take place at 11:30, so students or parents may pick up a little after that (to give us time to assemble the orders) or right after school. Butter Braids must be picked up on the 4th as they need to get into a freezer. Please arrange for someone to pick up the order!

Speaking of our trip, I have decided that it would be wise for the Blue Orchestra to attend the W-ASTA/WWU Orchestra festival in Bellingham the weekend of March 16-18, 2018 rather than try to go to Disneyland. Maybe some year we will be able to do an epic trip such as this, but I think it was a little ambitious to try this year. Going to the festival in Bellingham will be a great trip also. Parents, please let me know if you are interested in chaperoning. As for the Gray Orchestra, I am still working on a plan for their trip. I will keep you posted.
